Within the Coptic Orthodox Church community, there is a significant emphasis on service, particularly within the realm of medical treatment and education. An organisation apart of the Coptic Orthodox Church is an initiative known as Thanksgiving Australia, which aids in 28 rural villages across 4 countries and has proudly established 9 Non-Government-Organisations (NGO’s).
Throughout each year, a variety of people from different churches within the Coptic community travel far and wide to rural and remote communities in Cambodia, Philippines, Egypt and Nepal. By using the skills given to them and acquired over many years, these individuals operate, interact, and treat patients in harsh conditions with low sanitation, lack of education and basic nutritional needs. Individuals with various talents and skills are encouraged to serve and teach large groups of children clean sanitation, oral hygiene, and the Gospel of God.
Furthermore, the service gives students from all ages the opportunity to learn and use their growing knowledge to serve people in these rural and remote communities, under the shadow of skilled professionals. These young students learn the importance of developing a strong rapport with patients, prioritise patients’ medical requirements over their own comfort and learn practical situational judgement skills.
Thanksgiving Australia now has a very dedicated and special individual Nassif Hanna, in Malaysia awaiting approval by the government to establish NGO’s for the greater community and offer the best service possible.
